Oakey Fist-Pump is New Fad

October 29, 2008

Some people give high fives. Some people yell at the top of their lungs. Some people sing along and dance. Some are so “not low” they don’t know where they are. Some do drugs. One may crowd-surf. Carrie Oakey fist-pumps.
There are many different ways in which one would act at a Beenie Man concert, as described above. It may not be typical procedure to throw up a fist pump at this type of rap/rock/reggae concert, but nonetheless, that has never stopped Oakey before. And to top it off…it was a straight-up-into-the-air fist-pump…from the tiniest, cutest kid in the crowd. But it got the fans rollin’, it got them anxious, it got them, well, pumped!

The Carrie Oakey fist-pump has become common routine not only among the college-aged crowd, but for people of all ages. “Yeah, just walking down the street the other day, some Frank Sinatra came on, and this old couple, probably in their 70’s, ceased holding hands and started fist-pumping in perfect stride, perfect harmony as they continued to walk down the street, as if it was rehearsed!” exclaimed long time friend of Oakey, Otis Terry Sanderson. “I couldn’t believe it! It was as if they took a class on fist-pumping…probably a class taught by Carrie herself!”

When Oakey returned to Jamaica (the country of origin of this well-known fist-pump) a year later for spring break, as she and Luther Brewster were creepily walking past the local first grade school building, the bell rang and the kids came out for recess…but they weren’t screaming with joy to be free…and they weren’t running to the monkey bars…they were fist-pumping and skipping. “I’ve never seen anything like it,” said Luther Brewster. “This cute kid I’m here with started a tradition, a new culture. Not just here, but you see it in NYC, you see it everywhere you go!”

And yes, unfortunately, as mentioned above, there was one who actually crowd-surfed at a Beenie Man concert!!!! Who knows, maybe that will become the new fad for 2009?

But probably not.
